The pleasanter side of Mt Diablo

What do you do on an April day after a late winter with lots of rain? Go find flowers and waterfalls! Or at least, you give it your best shot and see what happens.

The last time we went up to Mt Diablo (near Walnut Creek, CA), it was definitely the middle of summer. Hot, dry, hot, and dusty. This time we figured we’d avoid the very top and instead track down some spring-fed waterfalls that reportedly exist off the mountain’s north side. Spoiler alert – we found them! (Here.) And we found enough flowers to call this probably a top 5 wildflower in CA hike of ours.

  1. Slightly ashamed to admit I’ve never hiked the waterfalls on Mt. Diablo despite living in its shadow for 15 years. Oops!
