Exploring Waiheke Island

After arriving in New Zealand to start our grand adventure, we headed first to Waiheke Island (11 miles from Auckland in the Hauraki Gulf) for a few days of the “honeymoon portion” of the trip. We stayed in a bed and breakfast overlooking Enclosure Bay and spent three days wandering the island by foot, stopping at vineyards for wine tasting and delicious food. We discovered how very green the island is, explored a few (dozen) of the many many bays and beaches on the island, and made good use of the walking tracks (Kiwi for path/trail) everywhere we went. In our time on the island, we racked up 25 miles of walking!

Highlights of the island:

  • Views from our B&B
  • Dinner at Casito Miro, a very eclectic restaurant at the top of a vineyard
  • Stonyridge winery views
  • Te Motu wine tasting
  • Lots of great walking tracks and coastal views

  1. Looks incredible! And I can’t wait to see how many scenic beers you can rack up! (Scenic wine somehow seems redundant….)
